Providers achieve and maintain professional caregiver status largely through ongoing training.
All approved providers, workers in day care centres and foster parents in Alberta are involved
in the same provincial “Standard 10” training, which includes information on safety, child development,
child abuse and inclusion of all children, among other topics. Consultants take new providers
through the core or basic training which takes about 6 months. Once this is complete, or while
it is being completed the provider chooses one of the following available self study courses which
constitute the Standard 10 Training: "I want to continue my training." - Provider
